The only requirement to be considered a Hunter is that one specializes in the takedown or elimination of magical beings.
Because of this there's various levels of organization and roles that a hunter may follow.
Overview:
The levels of how extreme one is depends on what they think of the creatures in general. Because of the vast differences in types of Magical Creatures there's a huge divide in how they are viewed, and as such some hunters only hunt certain kinds, while others will stop at nothing to kill every one out there.
How each goes about their business is also dependent on the person. Some contract, others don’t, some perform rituals or study magic.
Organization:
Non-affiliated - Though the Hunter Society exists to assist and organize Hunters, there are many who are not affiliated with the group and choose to fight on their own. Reasons vary from person to person as to why they don't involve themselves.
Hunter Society - Overall very organized group, sends out Hunters to take on immediate threats as well as has a constantly updated hunt board for lesser threats that need to be taken out. There's a rank system based on several factors like skill level, teamwork, solo capability, tactics, experience, ect. though mainly each Hunter takes care of themselves and rank is only involved in what hunts they're sent on. Some hunters are assigned various positions other than direct combat such as Scouting, repair of Shatter Points, various positions around the Hunter Society (campus? what are words), and other tasks.
There do exists many Hunters in the group who choose to go about their own business while still being affiliated with the group for various benefits it grants. These Hunters or groups of Hunters are much less organized and don't always follow the laws set down by the society.
There's probably more to say here, but that's it for now.
