Sasha made his way to the library after confirming with the receptionist that there was nothing for him to help with at the moment, but she would page him if needed. When he entered he looked around at the familiar rows of books. He visited the library often on quiet days. It reminded him of Dalia and he thought that this would be something she would approve of him doing. Dalia always did love to read. She would often say "It is not true we have only one life to love, if we can read, we can live as many lives and as many kinds of lives as we wish" He made his way along the right side of the room and looked over each section with care. Dalia had always taught him to take careful consideration into all things that he did and to be gentle with books. He was sure that people would call these thoughts nostalgic and smile. So he smiled and then continued to wander through the rows of books.

Fai was stirred out of his readings by a soft padding of steps down the library hallway. From his perch atop the bookcases he gazed down, swishing his tail up out of sight from where it had been hanging off the shelf below. The intruder in question had a somewhat familiar face. It would be a lie to say he wasn't curious of the thing, as he'd never come across such an item that acts on what appears to be free will; all other imbued items were simply magical batteries or had a set programming to them. Watching intently as it passed by below him, he caught the smile it was wearing.
"Do you always imitate humans even when there is not one around?"

Sasha turned to look at the owner of the voice.
Atop the rows of bookcases was a small teal dragon who Sasha recognized from a couple of short encounters in the past. He had attempted to greet the dragon in passing, as Dalia had taught him, but did not receive much of a response in return. Dalia had told him that this would mean a person is shy or quiet. But Sasha had learned that this likely meant that the dragon just did not wish to be social or was in a "bad mood".
" I am modeled after a human. I was made to be an imitation. From what I was made to understand emotion is commonly expressed in the presence of others and ones self. Is that not correct?"

The Dragon mused over what the Doll had said; it was not incorrect, though it seemed a waste of effort to him. Assuming he had not seen Fai, there was no reason to keep up the act. It was very peculiar indeed. "That is so." He breathed heavily out his nose as he thought about what to say next, still finding it odd he was talking to a normally inanimate object, only animated through magic. "Then, you were taught how to act?"

Dalia had told Sasha many times, 'You were born into this world and taught to live in it just as myself and all others around us were. You must tell this to any who may think of you as strange.' and though he would follow this, like all else she taught him, he found it strange.
"Yes. Just as you or anyone else was taught." Sasha looked down at the rows of books and then up at the stack of books next to the dragon.
"My teacher was fond of reading. She would often say 'The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go.' "
Sasha stared up at the dragon "I'm curious. Why do you read?"

Fai hummed in consideration, a deep rumbling that resonated in his chest, as he formulated a reply, "those are... good words to follow." The dragon shifted his long body slightly, to be better angled towards the animated Doll below, which caused his dust-covered tail to dip down off the bookcase. Flecks of dust fell from the movement; softly catching the dim overhead light as they descended. He'd need to wash off later.
"Books are gateways to knowledge. They offer insight to the world that not many things can give." He blinked slowly as he went on, "I find it enjoyable to know more about the world I inhabit. More so, I am older than any human, and I have more time than one can reasonably understand. Books fill time, and so I read."

Sasha watched the dragon shift. When he spoke his words reminded Sasha of Dalia.
Sasha found it strange how this could happen. How two beings who are very different could suddenly show such similarities. Though he was also here to learn more, which showed that even he showed similarities to the being in front of him and perhaps even Dalia herself.
"We are here for similar reasons then. Perhaps you would be willing to share some of your time with me."

"Your name is Sasha, yes?" Intrigued by the thought that maybe something could be learned through more interaction with this one, spending time with them may be well worth it. "We have not been formally introduced yet, though you may already know my name as well. If not, it is Fai, and you are welcome to stay."

Sasha nodded in response to the dragons questioning of his name.
"I will stay until I am called down for work"
Sasha looked across the book shelves and wondered how many Fai had studied. How many days he had spent among the company of books.
Sasha looked to the dragon.
"Perhaps if you are willing, you would like to accompany me on my next outing?"
He looked at the open book next to Fai.
"There is much to learn after all."

Amassing knowledge had been Fai's obsession since a young age, and books had been an invaluable resource to do so, always full of new information, ideas, and even different life perspectives. A book was a guaranteed lesson, but an outing? There was a lot of promise in first hand experience with the world.
"That offer is appealing, what is it your work entails?"

"Contact with magical beings, hunters, evaluating the barriers magical weak points and restoring them if needed. Then submitting a report with the analysis team."
Sasha listed his regular work day. He did not mention the days he was sent out to help hunters.
Being sent to help hunters usually involved conflict and didnt interest Sasha very much. Sasha could not feel pain though, so he was considered valuable in high conflict situation.
"There are some magical disturbances being detected around the north border of the city. I am being sent to help find the source. You may have heard that most contacts have been told to keep quiet while a certain hunter is in the area so our information is not the clearest. Finding the source of the disturbance will be quickened if you lend your assistance."
