Three shots rang out in rapid succession before a soft sigh escaped Luca. She had felt her aim stray from it's mark from the recoil despite having been down here for a good part of the day practicing against it. Pulling the earmuffs down she set her focus on reloading; until the sound of footsteps down the stairs behind her caught her attention.

Having been working out for the better part of the last two hours, the man that was descending the stairs was considerably more disgusting then usual. His hair clung to his face an neck in a way that looked like he had just gotten out of the shower rather then needing one. The grey tank he was wearing was stained dark with sweat and drooped low on his chest, giving an impressive view of the ugly scars that raked up and over his shoulder. The fact that his signature hat was missing made the entire image even worse. Well aware then someone was occupying the shooting range because of the previous noise, Adams narrowed his eyes slightly when he realized who exactly it was. He considered slipping the trench that was casually draped over one shoulder back on but decided against it. She was just turning her gaze on him as he stepped down from the last stair. "So I see he wasn't protectin' you cause your incapable." His mouth was pulled into a smile but the glint in his eye made it seem almost dangerous. "If he was tryin' to hide you from me, it makes me wonder exactly what you are." He wasn't exactly projecting his usual imposing image, but she was armed heavier then he was and a fight wasn't exactly what he was looking for. Mostly he just desired the truth so he could start a fight later if he wished.

"Hide me..?" she repeated, in a barely audible murmur. Regrettably, there was no one else here to do so; the two of them where alone, and her instinctual shrinking down didn't help without someone or some thing to shrink behind. That didn't stop her from visibly closing in on herself anyway, as her heartbeat jumped up in pace. Direct attention from anyone made her skittish, and she already had no fond opinions of the man in front of her now.
She searched Adams for the right response to his statement, a skill she'd relatively mastered long before joining this Hunter's society, but was at loss for words. She wasn't entirely sure what we was hoping to gain from this conversation in the first place, did he track her down for this? Probably not judging from his appearance and the odor of sweat coming off of him. He was clearly busy at the gym upstairs, and was only passing by. She was just unlucky enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
He was still looking for a reply though.
Mustering up what she could of words, she spoke in a faint voice, barely louder than before, "I'm not sure what you're getting at."

Seeing her withdraw both physically and mentally only egged the man on. Stepping closer to her, he spoke again. "Don't you, now." Despite being only just taller then her, he was easily twice her weight which he used to get close enough to make her uncomfortable. His usual get up hid the fact that he was expectantly muscular with the broad shoulders to match.
"I know what kind of business this little town gets up to with all their devil deals." Making a point to look her up and down, his dark eyes finally met hers. "What I want to know is if you're entirely human."

Even with a gun in her hands Luca didn't feel confident about her safety. His advancement caused an impulsive step back to keep some distance, and she couldn't bring herself to make direct eye contact either. "Why wouldn't I be?" She still wasn't clear on what he meant, what had she done wrong?
Aside from the panic of the Hunter having closed some space between them, his scent was now all the more powerful as it assaulted her senses, and mixed with unease to make her nauseous. She wanted to run.

"I'm used to hunters runnin' the other direction when they see me comin'." He stopped advancing, allowing her to retreat back. "But never in fear."
Dark eyes piercing, he narrowed his eyes slightly. "And with the way your boy tried to hide you...well..." He gestured with his hands as if the answer to his question were obvious. "Mighty suspicious."
"Then again..." He drawled on, casually pulling the heavy jacket from his shoulder and slipping it back on. She looked like a trapped animal...which she very well might be. And that might her a trapped animal holding a gun."You'd have every reason not to tell me." He laughed slightly, a low and hearty chuckle.

"Please, you- you're scaring me." Was this it? Was she going to die here? Her vision had started to blur a little from tears welling up as she felt herself shaking. A clattering of metal on cement next to her snapped her attention to the floor, she hadn't even registered that she had lost grip on the gun, letting it slide right out of her fingers. Luca looked up, large eyes wide with fear; the deep blue of her iris contrasting heavily with the slight redness from the tears that had yet to fall. Without the gun she had no self defense, but if she were to reach for it things would only escalate, assuming he would even let her grab it. Pleading would only confirm his false assumptions as well.
"Liam wouldn't protect me if- no, he would kill me if-if I wasn't human." A couple hot tears had begun rolling down her face, but she managed the next words with conviction, "I don't know what he was like when you met him but he would never put up with such a thing!" Her breathing was heavy and the shaking hadn't stopped, but she stood now with some confidence.

Taken aback at her words and the sudden presence of tears, the usually so out spoken hunter was at a loss. "Ah.." He started, scratching the back of his neck embarrassed. There was the chance of course that she was playing him and it was all an act...but just by the look of her, that was very unlikely. It seemed he had just made a lady cry.
"Sorry honey.." His words were quieter now, rather then the loud accusatory tone he was using before. "Seems I'm a little to suspicious for my own good."
Stepping forward, he stooped down to retrieve the gun she'd dropped. "I should've figured as much, considerin' your boy's reputation. I suppose his reaction was more about me then about you." He held the gun out for her to take, making sure the butt end was facing her.

Luca wasn't sure what to say, the frightening demeanor of the man in front of her had so quickly slipped away, and she was still riding out the rush of standing up against someone for what may as well have been the first time in her life. She cautiously accepted the firearm, making a point not to reach near the trigger. Dropping the arm holding the gun down to her side she felt the weight of her emotional distress all at once. The last of her energy drained, she just wanted to return to her bed for the rest of the day.
"May I leave now?" Even with the gun once again firmly in her grasp, she spoke with a meek hushed tone, lacking any of the power she had put behind her last retort. She wiped her face with the other arm, unsure if she was still crying or not.

"You ain't gotta ask me permission, sweetheart." He backed away, an embarrassed smile on his face and his hands held up almost in an apology. What with her entire demeanor he wondered how she even came to be in the profession. Was this why Liam had be so adamant he keep away from her?
"I'm heading towards the cafeteria so you can stay here if you'd like, little mouse. I won't bother you again." Normally he would have tipped his hat to her, but made up for it's absence by nodding his head. "Sorry for the fright."

Stealing a glance down the shooting range to the targets as he mentioned staying only made her realize that she really just wanted to be left to rest at this point. Nodding in acknowledgment to his last words she watched him take a couple more steps backwards before turning around to leave. It would be faster to take the same route as him, but she opted for climbing the stairs instead, wishing to avoid any more 'socializing'.
